These services may include, for example, Live TV, Video On Demand (VOD) and Interactive TV (iTV). These services are delivered across an access agnostic, packet switched network that employs the IP protocol to transport the audio, video and control signals.
In contrast to video over the public Internet, with IPTV deployments, network security and performance are tightly managed to ensure a superior entertainment experience, resulting in a compelling business environment for content providers, advertisers and customers alike. That's a very good question, and that has popped in my head as well. I guess there are a couple outcomes to this.
If a mac address was used, you're right, the mag would no longer work. I haven't actually seen this happen yet though. And here's why: I feel like most people that buy stalker subscriptions desire one thing, a 'cable company' like interface. In most cases, Kodi cannot offer this. Most of the people that use kodi with stalker PVR client only do so for a very short time (maybe their guide doesnt work, or maybe they are missing out on videos on demand, timeshifting etc). Bottom line is, Kodi doesn't work well for IPTV.
That alone encourages people to pick up a set top box. I know a lot of guys that have used say Ipguys with kodi to test the channel lineup without buying a new box, and then a week later go and buy the box. I've seen first hand quite a few people asking 'I have a box now, can I change my mac?' The answer is yes, of course.
Another thing is, even if 2 people had the same mac, they would only run into problems if BOTH of them try the same service. There are lots of services out there. So if you had my mac address and were using voodoo, and I was using ipguys, we'd never know.
Finally, I suppose another option is to take a picture of your mag mac address, and send it to your reseller. It's possible they could forward it do their dealer, who will end up forwarding it again and again until it reaches someone that can access the stalker database and remove the other mac. At that time, that customer could create a new one. But like I said I haven't seen this happen, and it could be a real pain. Keep in mind dreamlinks and avovs and all those companies use similar mac addresses to mags. I suppose it's possible for a mag to be given the same mac as a avov from factory.
Anything is possible. Unless they are generating mac addresses from the same database, there would be no way to avoid this.
I really don't have a concrete answer for you, but as of yet this hasnt happend. My guess is that if this started becoming an issue, it would be a simple software update in the stalker software to allow mac addresses outside of the 00:1a:79 range. I think we will just let informir (the company that makes the mag and stalker software) let them worry about it should the problem arise.
